Yes, it will make ice cream… This is an okay freezer. The plastic tub is not round but shaped like an oval garbage can. This affects the speed in which the ice cream freezes. So far, all our batches have frozen at the bottom of the mixing cylinder, which stops the churning. But this leaves the top of the batch unfrozen, more of a slurry consistancy. So some time in a chest freezer is needed to firm up the entire batch.Otherwise, the unit runs well and is quiet. The 4 quarts is a good size. Instruction booklet…

Forget the wooden bucket!! Excellent product!! Have owned the traditional wooden bucket version (both hand-crank and electric) and have to say that this is better!! There is no leakage, as there is with the wooden one and no metal rings to rust. The size is perfect for making ice cream for the family for several nights. The ice cream is nice and creamy and, as the directions say, perfect after a night of “hardening” in the freezer.

Could use a “Fill Line” marker on the canister The Sunbeam ice cream maker that I had before had a “Fill Line” indent in the caniste that you could read from inside or outside the can. This one has neither. Instead the directions say to fill no more than 2/3 full, which isn’t that easy to eyeball when the container is being filled. Seems like a simple thing to add.
